Your Energy Called. It's Time to Tune In.
THE ROOTED LIVING RETREAT JOURNAL

What if the secret to feeling more alive isn't doing more, but learning how to work with your own energy? We spend so much of our lives learning how to manage our time. We organize our calendars, optimize our schedules, and squeeze more into every available hour.
But how often do we stop to consider how we're managing our energy?
Think about those wonderful days when you feel completely alive. Your mind is clear, your creativity is flowing, your body feels good, and you're moving through life with a little extra sparkle.
Now think about the other days.
You've spent hours sitting, scrolling, rushing, worrying, and responding to everyone else's needs. You're exhausted, but somehow your mind won't slow down.
Same beautiful human. Very different energy.
What if you could become more aware of these different states and learn simple ways to influence how you feel?
This is a reflection that I've been having this season in life that'd myself and Rooted Living Retreats into our Flow & Glow era.
Your Body Is Electric. Literally.
Here's something fascinating to me that I've been tapping into more on a physical and emotional level: we're bioelectric beings. Our brains, nerves, hearts, and muscles use tiny electrical signals to communicate. Our bodies are constantly coordinating incredibly complex processes that allow us to think, feel, breathe, move, and experience life.
And while we can't simply recharge ourselves like our phones, we can influence aspects of our physiological state through everyday practices.
Our breath, movement, attention, and environment all play a role in how we feel.
For example, practicing slow, comfortable breathing can influence heart-rate patterns and the nervous system's response to stress. Gentle movement can help us become more aware of physical tension, reconnect with our bodies, and interrupt long periods of inactivity.
The beautiful part? Some of these practices have been explored for centuries.
Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Wellness: Discovering Qigong
One practice I've fallen in love with is Qigong (pronounced chee-gong), an ancient Chinese mind-body practice that combines gentle movement, breathing, and focused attention.
Think of it as a slow, intentional dance between your mind and body.
Through my own exploration of Qigong and working with wonderful teachers, I've discovered something surprisingly simple: we can learn to become more aware of our bodies and develop little rituals that help us feel more grounded, connected, and present.
No complicated choreography. No expensive equipment. And absolutely no requirement to get everything perfect.
Just movement, breath, attention, and curiosity.
Research into Qigong and related mind-body practices suggests potential benefits for balance, physical function, quality of life, and certain aspects of mental well-being. While research continues, these practices offer an accessible opportunity to explore the relationship between movement, attention, and how we feel.
What I especially love is that you can practice almost anywhere.
In your living room. On the beach. During a quick break at work. At a dinner night out while waiting for the server. Even seated in a chair.
Sometimes, the most meaningful wellness practices are the ones we can actually weave into everyday life.
Feeling Stuck? Maybe It's Time to Move as a part of your daily rituals and routine.
Have you ever noticed how much better you sometimes feel after a long walk, a good stretch, or dancing to your favorite song?
You might start feeling tense, distracted, or mentally exhausted and finish feeling lighter, clearer, or more energized. That's part of what we're exploring through mindful movement.
Traditional Qigong describes the cultivation and movement of Qi, commonly translated as vital energy or life force.
From a modern physiological perspective, gentle movement and comfortable breathing engage our muscles, circulation, attention, and nervous system. While traditional Qi isn't scientifically established as a measurable form of bioelectricity, both perspectives invite us to pay closer attention to our bodies. And that's where things get interesting.
Instead of automatically reaching for another coffee, scrolling through another distraction, or pushing ourselves harder, we can begin asking:
What does my body actually need right now?
Maybe it's movement. Maybe it's rest. Maybe it's a few moments of quiet.
Learning to recognize the difference can become a valuable everyday skill.
The Art of Energy: Tune In. Release. Activate. Flow.
At Rooted Living, we're exploring four simple principles inspired by ancient movement traditions, modern wellness practices, and the art of listening to our bodies.
1. Tune In
Before trying to change anything, become curious about how you're feeling.
Are you energized, restless, depleted, distracted, or carrying tension?
Learning to recognize your body's signals is the first step toward responding to your needs more intentionally.
2. Release
Explore gentle stretching, shaking, comfortable breathing, and mindful movement.
Notice where you're holding tension and give yourself permission to soften.
Not everything needs to be carried into the next moment.
3. Activate & Flow
Connect your breath with gentle, rhythmic movement.
Explore what helps you feel more alert, present, and connected to your body.
Sometimes the answer isn't pushing harder. It's finding a different rhythm.
4. Restore & Glow
Make space for rest, creativity, music, nature, meaningful conversations, and the experiences that bring you joy.
The goal isn't to have endless energy.
It's to care for yourself so you have more capacity to enjoy the life you're living.
The Glow-Up Is an Inside Job
Here's a little perspective shift I've been exploring.
What if feeling youthful wasn't just about how we look?
What if it was also about having the energy to explore, the flexibility to move, the curiosity to keep learning, the confidence to express ourselves, and the freedom to enjoy life more fully?
What if our wellness routines became less about fixing ourselves and more about developing a wonderful relationship with the bodies we're living in?
That feels like a glow-up worth investing in.
And it's one of the reasons I'm so passionate about creating experiences that bring together restoration, learning, meaningful connection, and play.
Because slowing down shouldn't mean putting your life on hold.
Sometimes, slowing down gives us the space to enjoy it more.
Three Little Invitations to Begin Your Own Flow & Glow Era
You don't need to wait for a retreat to start exploring your relationship with your energy.
Here are three simple invitations you can experiment with today.
1. Get curious about your energy.
Notice the moments when you feel most energized, creative, calm, and connected.
What were you doing? Who were you with? What might your body be telling you?
2. Take yourself on a 10-minute date each day right at home.
Step outside. Put your phone away. Take a few comfortable breaths. Stretch, walk, practice gentle Qigong, or put on a song that makes you want to move.
No performance required. Just ten minutes of undivided attention.
3. Create rituals worth looking forward to.
Forget the idea that wellness needs to feel like another obligation.
Find practices that genuinely feel good, fit your needs, and bring a little more pleasure and intention into your everyday life.
And remember, sometimes the most restorative thing you can do is absolutely nothing.
Let's Make Grounding Feel Good Again.
This philosophy is at the heart of our upcoming Rooted Energy: The Art of Energy day retreat. We're bringing together mindful movement, breathwork, nervous-system practices, immersive sound, restorative spa experiences, nourishing food, and meaningful connection for a day dedicated to exploring your energy.
It's an opportunity to step away from the noise, discover new practices, reconnect with your natural rhythms, and enjoy being fully present.
Come curious. Bring your whole self. Explore what feels good.
And perhaps leave with a few new rituals, wonderful connections, and a renewed appreciation for everything your body makes possible.
Because grounded doesn't mean boring.
And living well should be a whole lot of fun.
